Now, the battle lines seem to be drawn. Veena Malik has already been reported to feature in ‘Bigg Boss’. If Neetu indeed joins her in the reality show, there could be major catfights, news spills and more shocking drama about the humongous cricket scandal which has already rocked the world.

When asked about her appearance in ‘Bigg Boss’, Neetu’s publicist Dale Bhagwagar said, “I have also been hearing the buzz, but am yet to confirm with Neetu. I haven’t spoken to her, as I’m aware that she is in rehearsals today and her phone would be on silent mode. I’m not sure if Neetu would agree to be in ‘Bigg Boss’ even if the monies are huge.”

The news comes as a shocker, especially after the cricket match-fixing controversy, wherein Veena Malik unceremoniously dragged Neetu Chandra’s name, stating that the Bollywood actress had direct links with her ex-boyfriend and Pakistani bowler Mohammad Asif as well as with the ‘spot-fixing’ scandal.

Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed for the second time the petition filed by suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed for the second time the petition filed by suspended IPL chairman Lalit Modi, challenging constitution of the BCCI disciplinary committee, formed to look into the alleged irregularities committed by him.
Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice D Y Chandrachud also refused to stay Wednesday's proceedings of the disciplinary committee.

Modi had argued in the petition that two members of the committee -- Arun Jaitley and Chirayu Amin -- are likely to be biased against him and pleaded that they should be replaced.

The court, however, held that Modi can raise the issue of bias at a later stage while challenging the final decision of the committee and the BCCI.

The suspended IPL chief had earlier also filed petition on the same grounds but another division bench in July said that he could raise the issue before the committee itself.

The committee subsequently rejected his argument on August 11 holding that Amin and Jaitley need not pull out.

Being aggrieved, Modi moved the High Court second time but the court did not grant him any relief.

French author : Rajiv Gandhi was indirectly responsible for demolition of Babri Masjid Read more: Rajiv Gandhi was indirectly responsible for demolit

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the court verdict on Ayodhya dispute, a French writer on India says it would be a moment of reckoning and an opportunity for Indian leadership to bring Muslims back into mainstream.

"September 24 would be the next turning point in India's history. I hope the judges are aware of it. There should be efforts for reconciliation and the initiative should come from the Hindutva forces. Triumphant attitude on their part would invite trouble," said Dr Christophe Jaffrelot, who teaches South Asian Politics and History at Sciences Po in Paris.

The author said the saffron brigade will have to think twice before relaunching the tirade against Muslims as the middle class has taken a stand against it in 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

For Muslims, he said, an unfavourable judgement would be like a double-edged sword as it could be seen as accepting defeat again and again.

"It's the time to show that Muslims are part of India and change their psyche of fear. Me and my research students surveyed 12 Indian cities and most of Muslims there see demolition of Babri Masjid as a turning point," said Jaffrelot, speaking at the launch of his book, " Religion, Caste and Politics in India".

He said Rajiv Gandhi was indirectly responsible for demolition of Babri Masjid as he tried to play one community against the other.

"From Shah Bano case to opening up of the Masjid on VHP's request to launching his election campaign from Faizabad calling it Ram's land, he was playing Hindus against Muslims and vice-versa," he said.

He, however, refused to accept that BJP is a spent force and saw Bihar elections as a litmus test for the party.

"You cannot reduce BJP to anti-minority agenda only. They have other cards up their sleeve. It may come to power not because it will do something but because Congress will fail to do things. UPA Government is divided and paralytic at the moment and a strong PM is absent to manage the team," said Jaffrelot.

He opined that Rahul Gandhi becoming PM in the future depends on whether UPA comes to power again. "Congress needs a Gandhi. Sans a Gandhi, it is faction ridden. Sharad Pawar, Mamata Banerjee moved out when there was no Gandhi around. No doubt Congress will promote Rahul for next PM's job," he said.

When asked about Narender Modi's chances to be the PM, Jaffrelot said it can happen only by default.

"You cannot make allies with too much of extreme agenda. Modi can be a strong leader but in that case, BJP will run out of allies. As long as RSS has a say in appointing BJP President, Modi has no chance," he said.

His book explores the transformation of the Nehruvian approach, since the 1980s resting upon three pillars - secularism and democracy in the political domain, state intervention in economy and policy of non-alignment.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was "shocked and distressed" by demonstrations engulfing Violence spread to new areas of Kashmir on Wednesday

JAMMU: Violence spread to new areas of Kashmir on Wednesday, with three more protesters shot dead by police, as the government held talks in New Delhi to tackle the escalating unrest.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he was "shocked and distressed" by the demonstrations engulfing Kashmir, where 18 people died on Monday in the bloodiest day in three months of protests.

On Wednesday, police opened fire on a rally in the previously quiet town of Mendhar, about 210 kilometres (130 miles) from the town of Jammu.

"As the situation went out of control, police opened fire to disperse the mob in which three protesters were killed and at least 25 others were injured," said a police spokesman in Jammu, asking not to be named.

For three months, young Kashmiris have thrown stones at security forces, defied strict curfews and held anti- India rallies, resulting in clashes that have now left 91 people dead.

But since the weekend, the violence has risen in intensity, with mob attacks and arson taking place, apparently fuelled by reports about the desecration of the Koran by a small group of Christians in Washington on Saturday.

Police in Jammu said the crowd had tried to attack a Catholic school in Mendhar.
Speaking at the start of a meeting of all major political parties in New Delhi on Wednesday, Singh said dialogue was the only way out of the crisis but that peace and calm had to be restored first.

"The only path for lasting peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir is that of dialogue and discussion," Singh said.

"Those who have grievances against the government have to talk to the administration," he said. "But it is also true that meaningful dialogue can happen only in an atmosphere free from violence and confrontation."

Singh, who admitted last week that he was "groping" for a response, chaired the all-party meeting at his residence, with the government under pressure to show leadership.

One measure under consideration is the partial withdrawal of a tough military law in the region, which grants the armed forces immunity and is seen as fuelling a sense of injustice for Kashmiris.

The cabinet discussed this at a meeting on Monday, but decided against taking a decision.

Politically, the ruling Congress party is hemmed in by the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) main opposition group, which sees any concession on autonomy or security as a betrayal of the nation.

The prime minister warned last week that there "is no royal road to success" and that he "can't pull a rabbit out of a hat" in Kashmir, which is part of the northwestern state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Singh has doggedly pursued peace talks with Pakistan, argued in favour of reducing the military presence in Kashmir and repeatedly offers talks to all parties in Kashmir that reject violence.

"Each of these enterprises ended in impasse," said The Hindu. "By talking big while having little to offer, New Delhi has unwittingly fanned the flames," it said.
"Firm, generous-spirited action to win over the people is needed."

Elsewhere in Kashmir, police imposed a strict curfew in all major cities and other trouble spots, leading to complaints from residents that they were running low on food.
